PTA

What a busy first half term we have had, we hope you all enjoyed your half term break and had fabulous fun. Just before the term finished the PTA held their AGM and we have elected a new team to carry on the fabulous events which Laura Edinburgh and her committee worked so hard in delivering.

I would like to take this time to say a very large thank you to Laura who will continue to stay on the committee and support the new team with the upcoming events of this academic year.

Friday 3rd March -  Quiz Night

Fabulous fun!

Get your brains in gear and join us at 7.30pm in the School Hall, eight people per team.
A Fish 'n' Chip supper and a cash bar all add to the fun for this hilarious night out. A highlight of the parents' calendar !

£10 per person, including the Fish 'n' Chips. Complete your entry form sent out with the school newsletter of 27th Jan or pick up an entry form from the PTA box in the school reception.

Don't worry if you don't have a complete team of 8.
We will marry teams up if necessary !

Friday 24th March - Film Night

Our last film night in the Autumn term was a huge success, so we will be repeating the event this term too. Stay tuned, we'll let you know what film we'll be showing shortly !

Sunday 2nd April - Easter Egg Hunt

Join us for a fun family afternoon exploring the village by way of an Easter Egg Hunt. There'll be an Easter Bonnet Parade too, so please do put the date in your diary and we'll send out further details as the planning develops.

None of these events would be possible without parental support. If you are able to help at any of the events or are interested in helping with the planning, please let a member of the PTA committee know. Everybody is welcome!

2. Fundraising Ideas -

Try some of these fundraising ideas whilst at home to help raise funds for your child's school

The Giving Machine
Shop Online? Why not give to St Thomas' Infant School while doing this!
All you have to do is go onto TheGivingMachine.co.uk find St Thomas Infant School Newbury, and add them as your chosen beneficiary. A percentage of the amount you spend will be donated to St Thomas.
There are huge numbers (over 600) of well-known shops to choose from ie Amazon, Next, John Lewis, too many to mention, I am sure you will find the one that you want!
It's so easy to do and costs you nothing.

Easy2name
Fed up with "inking" names into everything? The PTA has teamed up with Easy2name to provide a simple solution! Some of you may have heard of (or even used) Easy2name products but for those that haven't they specialise in stickers, iron and sew on labels for school clothing, lunchboxes, shoes, gym bags etc.

Easy2name are offering us 20% cash back for our PTA funds on any orders placed. You can order over the phone or via the internet (www.easy2name.com). Be sure to quote our reference "St Thomas Infant School RG20" to ensure we receive the cash back offer.

The Yellow Moon Catalogues
Please support our school by purchasing an item from The Yellow Moon Catalogue, there are lots of items for you to choose from and this will help greatly to our fund raising efforts.
Lots of great craft and gift ideas for children. Please quote the source code when ordering and St.Thomas' will receive 20% cash back. The code is 'SST5620'.

4. How funds are being used

The PTA works closely with Mrs Pearce-King in identifying specific items to fundraise for and for allocating raised funds. Our general aim is to support the school with 'extras' that cannot be funded from the regular budget.

We have recently installed the Music Garden in the main playground. This is a great area for children to develop a wide variety of skills. All the children are enjoying exploring their musical skills!

Currently the PTA provides a regular commitment to:

  • The water coolers in the school which enable the children to have fresh drinking water continuously
  • Funding of an annual tea party for our Y2 leavers
  • Continual contribution to the Librarian costs
  • Providiing the funding for the transport used for the YR and KS1 trips every year

In previous years we have used our funds to provide the following:
  • Role Play house in the Year R playground
  • Author visits to the school
  • Mobile Farm/Zoolab visits to the school
  • New musical instruments

5. About the PTA
The PTA is a group of parents/carers (not just Mums!) who get together to organise a lot of fund raising events and fun activities for the children of St Thomas' Infant School.
Our annual calendar usually includes a Christmas Fair (with Santa in his grotto!), 2 school Discos for the children, regular film nights, summer fete, quiz nights for the Grownups and fun for all the family.

We also support the school in a number of other ways
  • Organising refreshments at school events such as church services, nativity performances
  • Helping with ad-hoc fund raising initiatives planned by the school
  • Class Representatives - always available to ask questions - we may not know the answers, but we will try and find out for you!

7. How you can help!

Support our Events
Your attendance and support of our events is vital - without you taking part and helping your children take part, our events would not be a success. Thank you for your enthusiastic support.

Join our Committee Team
The more of us there are, the less there is for each individual to do! We've got a good team at the moment, but every year this changes as parents leave when their children move on to other schools. So new recruits are always welcome however much (or little) time you can offer.

Helper Team
We have a list of helpers who don't want to commit to regular meetings, but are willing to support specific events. If you are able to help in any way then please let us know.

Match Funding
If the company you work for offers match funding or similar volunteering/fund raising incentives then we would be delighted to hear from you if you are willing to support us (even in a small way) with an event that would qualify - this can significantly boost our fund raising efforts. Not sure? Well many national/international PLC's /high-profile companies offer this (perhaps some smaller ones too) - often your HR department will be able to let you know.

Skills and Resources
If you can offer skills or support with free or discounted access to useful resources, then please let us know. We try very hard to keep costs as low as possible for all our events-anything you can offer would be gratefully received.
